Job description
At an exciting stage our client is currently looking for a
Senior Distribution Supervisor
to add his/her strengths to the Distribution department. The European Logistics Centre Distribution Department consists of 10 employees and is responsible for organising transportation from the different plants worldwide to the ELC, as well as to ship all available orders with contracted carriers for timely delivery to our customers. You report directly into the Distribution Manager and will manage 2 direct reports and have 6 indirect report.
Key responsibilities are:
- Manage the complex transport and distribution operation for the EMEA region to achieve targeted profitability and service levels, monitoring performance and achieving optimum efficiency while maintaining acceptable quality of service.
- Organisation of physical distribution of all finished goods and customer orders by using pre-selected carriers that are specialised in the industry
- Freight vendor tendering, selection and contracting. Use benchmarking and RFQ processes to challenge the current distribution methods
- Actively manage the performance using daily reports and communication with major carriers, regular reviews with minor carriers and measure the competence of freight suppliers by quarterly carrier reviews and negotiation rounds whereby corrective actions and developments are agreed and monitored
- IT implementation of carrier components in the B&L Warehouse Management System and the Pitney Bowes EDT software whereby carrier specific labels are generated linked to a standard EDI and Tracking possibility on the ELC Watch
- Customs Compliance whereby all customs related activities that impact financials and import/export processes are validated: commodity codes, export documentation requirements, denied party screening, C-TPAT and security and access controls with carriers
- Use the Carrier Review process, Customer Complaint system, Customer Satisfaction Survey and Business Reviews to identify area's for improvements to the European Distribution system to warrant a reliable service to our customers
- Weekly reporting of volumes, interpreting data with responsible departmental managers and analysts, monthly reporting of freight and trends to the ELC FP&A department to achieve a deeper understanding of the cost drivers, trends and issues having financial impact on the organization
- Proactively pursue solutions to positively impact local P&L by implementing freight saving initiatives
Requirements
- You qualify for this position if you minimally hold a BA degree in either Logistics (with experience in working in close collaboration with Finance) or Finance, or demonstrated commensurate work experience. You have experience with managing people
- You have a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar position. An additional four years of relevant experience is required in absence of a degree;
- You possess excellent English and Dutch verbal and written communication skills; any other language is considered an asset
- Knowledge/experience of MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access is required;
- You have system knowledge (BPCS and People Soft, AS400) or are willing to learn;
- This position requires a passion for problem solving, solid understanding of logistics and high quality awareness, together with the ability to think strategically and act operationally. Or ideal candidate has strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; team builder mentality, and is an effective communicator.
