An exciting opportunity has become available for a new team member to join the London Regional Media Hub, an office of the State Department’s Bureau of Global Public Affairs, located at the US Embassy, London, as our Persian Media Specialist.
Exceptional interpersonal skills are a must in this role, as are oral and written communications while working with Persian-speaking journalists, editors, and other contacts in order to explain and promote the policies and perceptions of the United States Government.
You will be expected to take ownership of a range of responsibilities such as: reviewing pan-Persian regional news outlets (including, but not limited to, major dailies, online sources, and broadcast television); preparing analysis and summaries of topics and issues of concern to the London Regional Media Hub and the US Government on a regular basis; advising the Hub Director of developing trends and new issues in Persian media of interest to the Hub, the Bureau of Global Public Affairs, the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, and the USG at large; developing and maintaining contacts with a wide variety of senior Persian journalists in the London offices and bureaus of Persian newspapers, television stations, and radio services; identifying and recruiting Persian journalists for participation in Hub-arranged training and press programmes; advising the Hub Director of personnel changes at major Persian media organisations in London; working with the Hub Director to co-ordinate arrangements for interviews involving high-level USG officials and the pan-Persian media; developing social media content to be distributed via the Department's Persian-language social media platforms, commanding the editing software and creating infographics and short videos for online dissemination; organising, developing, and conducting media trainings for USG officials; handling all logistics related to trainings throughout the year; assisting the Hub Director with the preparation of on-air Persian-language interviews; tasking products for translation and conducting timely quality control.

University degree or equivalent in one of the following fields is required: Persian Studies, Journalism, Communication, Economics, International Relations or Political Science.
Work experience as a journalist in a Persian newspaper, television/radio station, or online website, or as a media monitor in a major organisation responsible for monitoring and reporting on Persian media is required.
Fluency in Persian and English at Level 4.
Extensive knowledge of Persian media, politics, history, and culture is required. Good knowledge of United States foreign policies, political system, society and culture is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. Knowledge of how the Hub interacts with its parent office in the Bureau of Global Public Affairs, Office of International Media Engagement, and other sections of the embassy is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
A flexible approach to quickly changing priorities is required. Ability to translate easily and accurately between Persian and English is required (this may be tested). Ability to draft quick and accurate summaries in English is required. The ability to discern and analyse trends and narratives in Persian media and explain those to colleagues in the Hub and in Washington is required.
The ability to work well with a wide range of individuals at all levels is required. Ability to confidently undertake outreach to relevant media organisations and build relationships with journalists is required.
Requires flexible hours in carrying out regular and other duties including preparation of daily report, hosting major USG visitors and special Hub programs/projects.
Excellent interpersonal skills to work with Persian speakers, Americans, and other contacts are required. Ability to work quickly and effectively, both individually and as part of a team, is required. Ability to accomplish objectives within deadlines, during both routine work schedules and during periods when work must be performed under time pressure or special projects, is required. Expertise in using Microsoft Word, the Internet, and online databases, in particular for producing the daily media report, is required. A willingness to carry out duties outside normal working hours (i. e. attending Hub events and occasional press monitoring evenings and weekends) is required.
